Ever needed to fix a production bug while working on an unfinished feature?
Git Worktree lets you create multiple working directories linked to the same Git repository, so you can work on different branches simultaneously without constantly switching branches.
In this video, you'll learn:
- What Git Worktree is.
- The problem it solves.
- How Git Worktree works.
- How to create and manage worktrees.
- Practical Git commands.
- Benefits and trade-offs.
One detail worth getting right: a worktree is not a second clone. Each worktree has its own working directory and its own checked-out branch, but they share the repository's object database, history and metadata. That also means Git normally won't let you check out the same branch in two worktrees at once, and each directory still needs its own dependencies and environment setup.
