Nginx Explained in 30 Seconds

What if one server could handle thousands of connections efficiently? That's Nginx.

Nginx is a high-performance web server that does two jobs at once:

→ Serves static files itself — images, CSS, JavaScript, straight off disk,
without ever touching your application.
→ Acts as a reverse proxy — forwarding dynamic requests to your app server.

Why teams run it:
- Handles thousands of concurrent connections on modest hardware
- Load balances across multiple backend servers
- Terminates SSL/TLS so your app doesn't have to

These are capabilities, not defaults — load balancing, caching and HTTPS all
depend on how you configure it.

A typical production flow:
Browser → Nginx → App Server → Database

Nginx takes the incoming connection, serves what it can, and passes the rest
to your application, which handles business logic and database work.
